It’s no secret that the health and well-being of your employees tie directly to their overall productivity and ultimately your company’s bottom line. Or that providing a healthy environment is critical to attracting top talent in this increasingly competitive environment. Most companies are well aware of these facts by now. Cushman & Wakefield certainly is, which is why we have a Wellness Practice in place focused on workplace wellness strategy development, wellness employee engagement and change management, technology platform strategy and program management, on-site wellness support, and WELL Certification consulting services for occupiers and investors.
Never satisfied with the status quo, we recently took our commitment to wellness to the next level by becoming a founding alliance member of the Well Living Lab. This Lab, which is a collaboration of Delos and the Mayo Clinic, researches the real world impact of indoor environments on human health and well-being and then comes up with practical ways to create healthier indoor spaces. More specifically, the world-class research approach of the Lab will leverage and expand upon the principles of the WELL Building Standard, which sets performance requirements in seven concepts relevant to indoor health: air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort, and mind. Considering the average American spends more than 21 hours indoors – with a large chunk of this time spent at the office – this type of research will be instrumental in both the immediate and long-term.
The reality is we live in a technology-enabled world that’s changing so quickly, which makes it hard to stay on top of the latest trends in wellness and health. I’m so excited about this Lab because I think it’s going to help us do just that – it’s human-centered, research-based and at the forefront of creating healthier spaces in which to live, work and play indoors. Partnering with such an esteemed facility like this not only keeps us in the ‘know’ when it comes to wellness, but it also cements our place as a true innovator and leader within this all-important space.
